Installing a Shower Screen is scary, difficult and very weary of doing by people, but following the rightful way and learning from the experts/professionals it can be easy to install a Shower Screen. Before installing your Shower Screen, you will need to ask yourself *which type of Shower Screen do I want to install or how do I install my shower screen*. If you are a newbie to DIY’s, it is advisable to have a handyman to assist you when fitting your shower screen as it can be quite challenging to hold the shower screen without shaking while you are making sure it is level. Generally the time it takes to install a Shower Screen can vary depending on the level of your experience when it comes to DIY’s and also the type of screen you are trying to fit in your bathroom.
HOW TO FIX A SHOWER SCREEN.
If you are thinking of fitting a shower screen as part of your shower enclosure unit follow the steps below:
- ENSURE THE CHANNEL WALL IS MARKED
Firstly you will need to measure 10-15mm on the inner part of the outside edge of the shower tray as the wall channel will need to be placed. Once you or the handyman has done the above, to ensure the channel is straight use a spirit level to check this then place a mark on the wall for the holes in the channel to be drilled.
What is the ‘Wall Channel’? The wall channel is the section that grips the shower screen in place on the wall.
2. READY TO DRILL THE HOLES.
Ensure either you or the handyman drills the size of the holes based on the instructions detailed in the shower screen manufacturer’s manual or the size of your wall plugs. Make sure the holes you drill on the wall are in the same position you have marked for the holes and place wall plugs into those holes. It is essential you check for the positioning of the closest pipes or electrical cables (if there are any).
3. ATTACHING THE CHANNEL TO THE WALL
Secure the wall channel to the wall using the holes you drilled and the fixings the shower screen manufacturer provided. Your wall channel is now in place.
4. FITTING THE GLASS PANEL
You now need to ensure the glass panel is attached securely to the wall using the fixings and instructions that are detailed in the shower screen manufacturers guide. As mentioned earlier in this post that shower screens can be challenging with fitting due to the weight, it is advised to ask a handyman to assist you with this step.
5. GET THE BRACING BAR FITTED.
Fitting the bracing bar is a crucial step as the bracing bar is a very important component of your shower enclosure because it gives it sturdiness. Making use of the fixings provided you should first connect the bar to the shower screen stretching the bar across to the wall. Make sure the bar is level using a spirit level, once you have done this place a mark through the holes that are in the bar onto the wall so you are able to see where to drill. Now drill the places you have placed the hole marks ensuring you use the correct size of drill, then place the bracing bar to the wall.
6. SEAL THE EDGES.
You will need to use a sealant gun and a sealant to seal the edges of the shower screen that you have just installed. Make a very tight seal that will stop moisture from escaping. It is advisable to leave the sealant for a minimum of 24 hours before making use of the shower again.
WHAT TO NOTE.
While you may be asking yourself ‘What type of shower screen do I want to install’ it is handy to bear in mind that the method of installing shower screens as part of your shower enclosure will be a little bit different to installing one to close up your shower or wanting to fit it for your bath.
Should you have any other shower screens you would like to fit as part of a shower enclosure, you can use the above steps to do this, be aware that you will be required to use the manufacturers guide to fix any extra fittings i.e. handles or doors that may have come in your package.
