HOW CAN I SAVE OR REDUCE COST ON MY UTILITY BILLS?

The average home spends approximately £1,273 a year on utility bills (electricity and gas bills and with the fast rising utility bills in UK homes we put together  a few tips that will help reduce cost.

  1. Energy-Efficient Appliances

One easy way to save a lot of money on energy bills is by upgrading to energy-efficient appliances. What you save depends on various factors such as specification of the appliance, how frequently you use it and the purchase price etc. For a household, this could save approximately £250 a year.

  1. Prevent Lost of Heat

Lots of heat can be lost through badly insulated walls and roof properties. With over 24 percent of a property heat being lost through an uninsulated or badly insulated roof.

A well-installed insulation will pay for itself many times over in a 35-40 years lifetime according to Boffins at the Energy Conservation Trust .

In a three bed semi detached, you could save over £140 a year with a well padded insulation of up to 270mm, also insulation in the walls could add another £200 to your savings.

Putting into consideration that Loft insulation is slightly cheaper than wall insulation, both insulations are a very effective way of saving.

  1. Change Your Old or Non Efficient Boiler

There are several factors that affect the cost of changing a boiler. This includes the make/model or type of boiler. It is also ideal to invest in an ultra-efficient air source pump.

It cost about £1,500 – £2,000 to replace an old boiler to a new one, depending on the make, model etc.

Beware, if a house is properly insulated, only then will heat source pumps or boilers that are installed in that property save money. A property with a well installed draught-proofing, thermostatic valves on radiators, loft insulation and double glazing can benefit a lot more savings from new or efficiently working heat source pumps or boilers than a property without.

  1. Leaving TV On Standby

Appliances, Televisions and devices left on standby use up electricity.

Switching off at the plug can save approximately £80 extra a year for you.

It’s a great idea to turn them of when not in use to save on the cost of electricity as leaving equipment on standby can still consume up to or over 70 percent of the energy used when fully working.

  1. Switch To Switching Off

Changing those old-fashioned light bulbs with modern energy-saving bulbs or by just switching off the light when not in use or when you leave the room can slash your electricity bills.

Small changes in the way everyone uses energy can lead to big savings on utility bills.

Most of the points here are inexpensive and easy to implement for the interest of your pocket or savings goals.
