INSTALL LAMINATE AND VINYL FLOORING OVER YOUR CURRENT TILES.

In our topic today, we are discussing how possible it is to install laminate or vinyl flooring over existing tiles. Most frequently, people might ask questions such as ‘laminate or carpet, which is better to install‘? or ‘if it is possible to fix new flooring over their existing tiles’, and oftentimes the response is yes! Although, disposing of those old tiles and starting afresh is best. On the other hand Installing new tiles over existing ones is a lot more comfortable, less time consuming, and economical. Likewise, removing tiles is a loud mucky  job to undertake.

The following needs to be considered if you are thinking about installing vinyl flooring over existing tiles or not.

EXISTING TILES CONDITION:

The existing tile condition should be intact. Broken or fractured tiles could suggest that there are key issues, more inspection will need to be done to determine the source of the problems, be it that the middle layer of the flooring system is shaky, or bad installations.  Be sure to contact an expert home improvement company to assist with this fix. It is better to take out the tiles before fixing new flooring, if the cracking is new.

When new flooring is  installed, it needs to be done on a clear, strong and even surface, as well as being in tip-top condition. The tiles and the area of the flooring as a whole require being smooth and levelled, there shouldn’t be any areas that are empty or have faulty places below the tiles and overall area.

THE THICKNESS OF THE NEW FLOORING:

The little additions in the general height of the flooring don’t cause any issues most times. Mostly only doors are affected, however they can be shortened to allow easy movement due to the increase in height. When making a decision whether or not to take this step, it is very crucial to think about the thickness of the final products, as different flooring have different thickness. Glue down luxury vinyl with self-levelling screed scales within 7mm and 10mm and also engineered wood, which commonly comes with 15mm thick ranges with underlay, which can add the height of the flooring by 17mm.  Laminate floors with 2mm underlay vary from 10mm and 14mm. If a floor height is enlarged by 17mm, your dishwashers will not blend in, for instance, kitchen counter tops are always the correct height to put or blend in the dishwasher.

When installing a stick down luxury vinyl flooring, a self levelling screed should be put in first. Then, the vinyl planks will be cemented onto the screed. But in case of Laminate and engineered wood flooring, it requires laying an underlay on which the fresh or new flooring is installed.
